Hey there Joe with your cheesy pickup lines
You're the guy who wouldn't give me time
Back in high school when you thought were the bomb
Now I hear you're home living with your mom
You’re sitting at the local bar and hitting on me
Slurring your words and talking nonsensically
All I can think is "Wow, what a tool."
You are just a guy who peaked in high school
CHORUS
Oh yeah, you peaked in high school
Beer pong champion 1999
Wearing your letterman's jacket way past your prime
Clinging to your youth when you used to rule
Oh yeah, you peaked in high school
Back then you went through girls at record pace
An intimidating jock, you punched nerds in the face
Now those nerds are successful, well adjusted, grown men
You're used car salesman number 9 of only 10
Your eyes are all bloodshot, you’re a deadbeat dad
Looking shocked I won't go out with you, I'm almost feeling bad
But then I remember when you shoved me in the pool
Fully clothed.
And you laughed.
Oh Yeah you peaked in high school
CHORUS
You had rock hard abs and a killer smile
You were homecoming king at the top of the pile
A rich kid who thought the rules didn't apply
You would lie, steal and cheat and in the blink of an eye
Your daddy would bail you out
And you'd be back to getting high
You were given no repercussions for your many, many sins
Now you're sitting next to me with two double chins
Telling me I'm hot and you'd like to take me for a ride
On the Joe “love express," it's all I can do to not be snide
There was a time I would have accepted
My self-esteem was so damn low
But I'm wiser now and understand, that with guys like you, Joe
Surface charm and popularity always disappear
When adulthood comes your failings they become that much more clear
While I was an awkward teen and geeky
I'm a confident woman now
The tables have turned, I've got the power and how
You're sad and pathetic and acting like a fool
It's time you admitted that you peaked in high school
CHORUS

Two things inspired the poem below:
- This awesome video for I Could Be The One by Avicii vs Nicky Romero
Both of these remind us how easy it is to fall into a pattern of doing
something we think we HAVE to do as opposed to what we WANT to do.
I think everyone struggles at some point in their life with balancing
security versus taking risks. Is it better
to keep the status quo or jump into the unknown - in work, in relationships, in
everything. There really isn’t a definitive right or wrong answer to this.
Usually it depends on one’s situation. Most of us don’t like change but
sometimes it’s what’s needed to push us out of our comfort zone.
So without further discussion, here’s what I wrote:
MORE
Sometimes it seems that my life is stuck
On wash, rinse, repeat and I’m in a deep rut
Hitting the snooze button not quite awake
Dreading the enthusiasm, I’ll have to fake
My job isn’t bad, it’s much better than most
But excitement is lacking, it’s blander than toast
I want a job that can make me feel
Like I’m more than just a cog in a wheel
Where I feel accomplished, passionate, alive
Instead of on autopilot rather than drive
Coasting is great when in a boat near the shore
Though not for a career when you want so much more
But a paycheck's a paycheck that much is true
And it's hard to figure out what else I could do
Blood makes me faint, so medicine is out
Numbers and finance are not what I'm about
I’d prefer not to work eighty hours a week
Or sell overpriced clothes in a trendy boutique
One of these days, I hope to find
Job fulfillment in my wallet as well as my mind
There's No Accounting for Taste
You forgot her birthday more than once
Left her crying in a heap
Ditched her to be with your friends again
You often don't come home to sleep
You disappoint her time and again
Though her love never subsides
I can't understand what she sees in you
Is it your lack of intellect or wandering eye?
CHORUS
Whatever the reason for her undying love
It all seems like such a waste
She's a 10 and you're a negative 2
There's no accounting for taste
She bailed you out of jail last night
For your second, no third DUI
You hit on her sister in front of her
And blamed it on being high
In every other area of her life
She's got her shit together
But her choice in a mate is a puzzling one
She must mistake pain for pleasure
CHORUS
SPOKEN/RAP
You ruined your last girlfriend's credit
And crashed another one's car
Her friends staged an intervention
But she walked out and said something bizarre
"One girl's trash is another one's treasure.
So why don't you let him be?
He may not seem that perfect to you
But he's the only man for me"
CHORUS
